KINTSUGI
KINTSUGI is a poetic and physical clown performance about loss, grief and comfort, with humor as a warm blanket.
A journey from hope to despair, to grief to anger, to the realization that losing someone never leaves you,
and that that's okay.
With a subtle, disarming and visual approach, they touch on a theme that connects us all.
There is a man.
There is a door.
There is hope.
The man waits. And waits.
Together we wait.
He does his best to play away the emptiness,
but it becomes increasingly clear how this is all going to end...
In KINTSUGI, hardly any words are spoken - and they don't have to be. The image prevails, humor breaks the tension, and comfort lurks in every scene.
A performance that touches without crushing.
During our try-outs this summer, it already became clear that KINTSUGI touches something in people — that it resonates, offering recognition and a sense of comfort.
This was beautifully confirmed by a message we received from an audience member after a try-out performance at the Miramiro Festival in Ghent:
“Hello Dieter (I think ;-)) Earlier this year, J — the love of my life — died in an accident. Suddenly gone... It moved me deeply, how you’ve been able to transform your own loss into something so healing. You’ve created a truly beautiful and touching performance. F.”
Yesterday, I saw your performance at Miramiro in Ghent. Wow...
So I feel your grief incredibly intensely...
Waiting for someone who will never come... Pretending the person you're waiting for is still there...
The anger, the empty words...
It’s all so familiar... You made me cry... And yes, you also made me laugh.
